ICAD

I was skeptical at first. An index card a day (ICAD)? But I was looking for a different creative release, and I liked the thought of something small. It made art seem a lot more approachable.

I must thank Tammy over at Daisy Yellow for creating wonderful prompts for ICAD, as well as furthering the creativity with the Daily Paper Prompts (DPP). She makes art enjoyable and rule-free!

I thought I should share some of my miniature "masterpieces." The good with the bad with the ugly.
This one is going to be mail art (DPP#19).

Inspired by circles.

Pattern (variation of DPP#11).

A Loose Translation: 15. Naisen pyöryläliivi, kevyt kellotus by Arja Viitala

I worked on "translating" the pattern from Finnish. No copyright infringement intended. The original pattern is here. I saw people asking for it on Ravelry, and while I do not speak Finnish, I worked from the pictures and numbers and "Google translate" translation. All errors are probably mine.

Circular needles US 10 – 6.0mm. May use straight for Piece 2.
Yarn: Worsted (Novita Puro recommended)
I used 1.5 skeins of Carons Simply Soft for XS, which drapes a bit too much for my liking.
Gauge: 15 sts = 4 inches in stockinette and garter stitch

Piece 1: Worked in the round.
CO 16.
Rnd 1: *K2, yo* rep. from *around. (24 sts)
Rnd 2: K all sts.
Rnd 3: *K3, yo* rep. from * around. (32 sts).
Rnd 4: K all sts.
Continue in pattern of inc 8 sts every other rnd. 144 (160) 176 (192) 208 sts total. There will be 18 (20) 22 (24) 26sts between each yo. Bind off loosely.
Piece 2: Worked flat with basic short row shaping.
CO 30 (33) 36 (39) 41.
Row 1: K 30 (33) 36 (39) 41.
Row 2: K 20 (23) 26 (29) 31. Turn work.
Row 3: K 20 (23) 26 (29) 31.
Row 4: K 30 (33) 36 (39) 41.
Repeat these four rows until 144 (160) 176 (192) 208 ridges (2 rows=1 ridge). Bind off.
Finishing. Sew CO and bind off of Piece 2 tog. To make circle/donut shape.
Block pieces.
Sew piece 1 inside piece 2 as shown in diagram, aligning sts with ridges. Leave 18 (19) 19 (20) 21 cm openings for armholes [purple squiggles in diagram].
For my XS, I had
44 sts/ridges across back of neck and shoulders
54 sts/ridges across back
23 sts/ridges open on both sides for armholes.
Vest can be worn open or pinned together or across. The bottom of piece 2 drapes while the top of piece 2 folds out for the collar.
